If there’s one piece of advice that we would give to all engaged couples, it would be to get organised from the get-go. It really is the single, simplest and easiest thing that you can do in order to help your day run smoothly.

Before you start doing anything, we suggest sitting down and creating an overall timeline for your wedding. Have a rough idea of exactly what you want to have completed and when, backwards plan every single aspect.

We know, this might seem like over kill in the first instance but trust us, it can be crucial. And anyway, we are going to do at least some of the hard work for you.

In this blog post, we’re going to answer one of the most common wedding invitations questions and give you an idea of exactly how you can backwards plan your invitations.

Twelve months

If you’ve already been engaged for a while, then the chances are that you will have already completed certain aspects of this step. But it’s always worth revisiting them anyway.

Hopefully by this stage you will have already pinned down certain aspects of your wedding day and so, you’ll have a strong head start on the invitation front.

As a general tip, hopefully twelve months before your wedding, you will have already selected your venue, decided on your theme and have chosen the date on which you will finally tie the knot.

Essentially, you’ll have all the information that your invitation is going to need.

Nine months

Now we start to get into the fun bit of invitation planning because from now on in, it’s time to get creative. If you’re anything like us, you’re probably already entering this stage with an idea of exactly what you want, or you’ll have at least some idea of your ideal invitation design. That’s perfect because that will also save you bundles of time in the long-run.

But if you haven’t got a clue where to even start with invitations, now is the time to really start browsing. Have a good look around and make sure that confidently select the design that most appeals to you.

Top tip – Make sure that you pick up matching save the date cards too, because these are going to come in handy.

Six months

You’re at the six-month mark and my gosh that wedding day is creeping up on you. It feels like you only started planning it yesterday and yet, here you are with only six months left to go.

By this point, you will have your invitations and you’ll have already organised substantial parts of your wedding day and now you’re itching to let everyone know. But be careful just young, don’t go sending out those invitations too early.

We agree that it’s important to give people enough notice, especially if certain arrangements will need to be made but send out your invitations too early and we can guarantee that people will misplace them.

At the six-months mark, we suggest sending out your save the date cards, allowing people to make their plans, whilst you get to keep the invitations for now.

Four months

If you’ve decided to hire a calligrapher to write your invitations, now would be the time to get those done. We still have a few weeks before we send them out and will give you the chance to check for any errors.

Three months

And we are finally here. Three months left to go and still so much to do and those invitations have been eating away at your conscious. But now, you can finally pop them in the post and get them on their merry way. Be gone beautiful invitations!
